Dear Parents,
After several years of inactivity, we are excited to announce the reorganization of the St. Paul’s Athletic Club. The primary purpose of the Athletic Club is to promote communication between the parents of St. Paul’s athletes and the coaching staff, as well as enhance support for all athletic programs through parent participation.
Participation in athletics is a vital component to the overall student experience. Over 70 percent of St. Paul’s students will participate on at least one athletic team sometime between their 7th and 12th grade years. Within the realm of competition and practices, these athletes learn many invaluable life lessons that prepare them for adulthood. Some of the lessons include developing a competitive spirit, personal commitment to challenging tasks, self-control, leadership, and integrity.
As a parent of a St. Paul’s athlete, you can be assured your child is participating in a program steeped in a tradition of excellence. St. Paul’s has won 153 state championships since joining the Alabama High School Athletic Association. This represents the highest number of state championships earned by any of the 400 participating schools in the Association. During the 14 years the award for “All Sports Champion” was given by The Birmingham News, St. Paul’s was named first or second in the state 12 of those years.
St. Paul’s coaching staff consists of 25 full time teachers/coaches and 50 part time coaches who oversee 50 different teams. Over 300 sporting events are hosted on our campus annually.
Parent participation is also essential to the continued success of our program. One major contribution involves work with our concession stand. This operation is 100 percent parent operated and has provided thousands of dollars to supplement the ongoing needs of athletics. All parents of student athletes are asked to willingly donate their time and energy for the continued success of this component of the athletic program.
We ask all parents to please consider becoming a member of the Coaches Club and our reserved seating group at E.E. Delaney Stadium. Your membership fees generate necessary revenue for athletics while giving parents many benefits as a result. (Please refer to the Coaches Club mail out for further details.)
Each parent of a St. Paul’s athlete is an automatic member of the Athletic Club. In the fall, we will organize parent representatives from each sport to facilitate parent input and participation. We look forward to enhancing an already outstanding athletic program through renewed parent involvement.
Sincerely,
Susan Boudreau
