Catherine Brown, Elizabeth Kim, and Micah McGuire have been selected as Azalea Trail Maids for the 2010-2011 school year.
The Azalea Trail is a tradition in Mobile that extends back to the early 18th century, when the first azaleas were brought from the Orient, and to 1929, when the Mobile Jaycees originated the Azalea Trail as a campaign to encourage homeowners to plant azaleas in a city-wide beautification project.
The Azalea Trail Maids, consisting of 50 outstanding high school seniors selected by a panel of prominent judges, serve as official hostesses while competing for college scholarships. They wear antebellum costumes of pastel colors, graciously inform visitors of the many Mobile attractions, and act as permanent goodwill ambassadors of the city.
